"Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11." -President Barack Obama
9/11 was the largest terrorist attack on U.S. soil. A total of 2,993 people died and 8,900 people were injured. There were other large attacks to the U.S. before 9/11 but not nearly as large. One of the most disastrous attacks was the Oklahoma City federal building bombing. There were 169 deaths and 675 injuries. This was the largest attack until 9/11. The Oklahoma City bombing was done by an American citizen by the name of Timothy McVeigh. He had grown hatred towards the American Government. Once he was arrested he was sentenced to death by lethal injection and his co-conspirator ,Terry Nichols, was given life without parole. Comparing the two shows how the 9/11 attacks were by far the largest attacks on the United States. Americans had never see this large of an attack on their our soil. For once in our history we felt the pain of massacre that other nations feel everyday. For one day we felt that we weren't invincible. This was the first time we have witnessed such a horror, it was the first time that we watched helplessly as two towers burned and thousands died, the nation watched as our national defense building had be hit by a plane, families listened to their loved ones voice for the last time as a plane crashed to the ground in Pennsylvania. Four planes were used as missiles to kill our friends, our family and the only thing we could do was watch. This was the largest terrorist attack on America and it was also one of the most horrific tragedies that has happened to America.
